This is "Apple Pi", a four story, 12,000 sq. ft. German Gothic house, containing 16 bedrooms. The Alpha Pi Lambda house is the largest fraternity house on Drexel University's campus in Powelton Village. Powelton Village was one of the earliest settlements in West Philadelphia. Many of the houses were built in the 1850's in this european age style, including several designed by Samuel Sloan. After the Centennial Exposition, the area attracted wealthy homeowners, such as Frederick A. Poth, a brewer, for whom this house was built.
Then, on the night of March 3, 1935, a new fraternity dedicated to eliminate all prejudices and develop character in its members was born. The organization was named, Alpha Pi Lambda. By the Fall of 1939, the Brothers of Alpha Pi Lambda moved into this house on 33rd & Powelton, and has been our home ever since.
Alpha Pi Lambda has been a local fraternity since it was founded in 1935. Which means we are the ONLY Alpha Pi Lambda fraternity in the country. Advantages of being local means low membership dues and self-governing powers. But these are merely the physical benefits of Alpha Pi Lambda. Come and see for yourself how we live up to the nickname "Apple Pi".
